The Shore of Hestitation

🌊 The Shore of Hesitation

The darkness of early dawn slowly softened into light. The smell of salt in the air, the cry of seabirds, and the rhythmic roar of waves all signaled the beginning of a new day.

Carrying his fishing net on his shoulder and pulling his small boat behind him, a young fisherman arrived at the shore. It was the first day of his life as a fisherman. Yet his feet remained rooted in the sand.

His eyes never left the sea. Small waves, big waves—each one crashed against the shore without pause. They looked like obstacles created to test anyone who dared to enter the water. But a little farther out, he could clearly see the calm, quiet stretch of the sea.

He stood beside his boat for a long time, thinking. Every time he tried to take a step forward, the sound of the waves pushed him back. The fishing net in his hand grew damp with sweat. “Should I go now… or wait a little longer?” His hesitation held him still.

The sun climbed higher, and time moved on. Only his doubt refused to move.

Hours passed. Morning slowly turned into evening. His fellow fishermen were returning to shore—nets full, bodies tired, but faces content.

Among them was an experienced fisherman who noticed the young man staring at the sea. He walked over and asked gently:

“You’ve been standing here since dawn, just watching the sea. Aren’t you going to fish? What’s stopping you?”

The young fisherman lowered his head and replied: “I want to go into the sea… but the waves keep crashing without a break. I’m waiting for the waves to stop.”

The older fisherman smiled— a smile filled with understanding and the weight of years.

“The waves will never stop. If you wait for the sea to become still, when will you ever fish?”

He tapped the young man’s boat and said firmly:

“If you want to catch fish, you must climb into the boat with courage. You must face the waves that try to stop you. Victory comes not after the waves end… but in the middle of the waves.”

Something shifted inside the young fisherman. Until now, he had only seen the waves. He had never noticed the calmness beyond them.

He took a deep breath. He climbed into the boat. He gripped his net tightly.

The waves were still crashing. But now, his heart was stronger than the waves.

He pushed the boat into the water. A wave hit him—he steadied himself. Another wave came—he pushed forward. Soon, he crossed the rough waters.

Beyond them, the sea was peaceful. And so was his mind.

That evening, when he returned to shore, his net held fish. But more importantly, he had gained something far greater—

the courage to overcome his hesitation.

From that day on, whenever he looked at the sea, he no longer saw the waves. He saw the opportunities waiting beyond them.
